A New Spin On An Old Thought
Many times, I’ve heard the sentiment over the years expressed that “I wish I could go back to the days of my youth knowing what I know now”.
The main idea there is that one would have avoided many mistakes in judgement or maybe have missed some opportunities along the way.
Of course, we all know that part of what makes us mature is learning from mistakes. Making 100% the right decisions throughout life is something we can only see in hindsight, anyway.
I love the thought that is presented by Bob Seger in his song, Against The Wind.
Rather than lament over idealistic scenarios, Bob presents the idea of Lost Innocence. This one line in the song jumped out at me the first time I heard it, and has stayed with me ever since:
Wish I didn’t know now what I didn’t know then.
Wow, chew on that golden nugget for a bit, it’s a heavy thought!
