Covering My Tracks

As a songwriter, there is no greater fulfillment than hearing other artists perform cover versions of your song. Today, I’m going to post some of my personal favorite covers of my songs.

You Are Crowned With Many Crowns

This was recorded by Jay Rouse, who did a great arrangement of my song in a medley with the famous hymn, Crown Him With Many Crowns. Jay is also the Music Director for Sandi Patti, a very well known Christian Music artist. This is an instrumental version he did for an Integrity Music project, “Worthy”.

You Are My Dwelling Place

Recorded by the Maranatha! Singers and included on the Praise 10 album. It features Jamie Owens-Collins, who also sang on my first record, Let Praise Arise. A stunning soprano voice, I always loved her raw emotion. There are two versions they recorded, the vocal version and then the Maranatha! Strings version, an instrumental. This is the vocal version.

The Lord Reigns

Recorded in 1989 when Maranatha! Music began a new series called Praise Band. Designed to be more pop/rock oriented, it was quite radical for the Christian Praise market at that time, but is surprisingly tame by rock band standards. I still love it, I just would have really gone for it and totally rocked out. But then again, I’m used to being booted out of things, anyway. ✌️

Let God Arise

This one became one of the most popular videos in all of Christian Music. Released as an Integrity Music project, it has over 6 million views on various YouTube uploads.

I love the orchestra and choir here, and all the pageantry, as well. Some may wonder about the mix of Jewish culture and Christianity. Jewish people are traditionally adherents to the Old Testament of the Bible, and the original Hebrew text. In the 1970’s, coming out of  the 1960’s Jesus People movement, as it came to be known, a new phenomenon moved into the mainstream. They were called Messianic Jews, those Jews who accepted that Jesus was the Messiah as foretold through the Old Testament Prophets.

Some of the lyrics here are actually sung in Hebrew. I did not write all of this, just the beginning and the end versions of Let God Arise. Whether or not one likes the subject matter, the performance gives me goosies.
